I hated this when I first saw it but I have warmed up to Puma’s last home jersey for the Arsenal. Some of the best moments in the last unhappy Arsenal decade have come from him. As far as goodbyes in football go, this has to be the best I’ve read. How has their summer been so far? All in all, it hasn’t been too shabby as far as the north London side are concerned. Adidas are planning to bring back the classic ‘Bruised Banana’ away kit for Arsenal’s 2019/20 season, according to a recent leak. Just like the Gunner’s horrible away form during the course of the season, this jersey is one to forget. A polarising one but I really like the mint/dark blue combination on the third kit. The light blue top did not look right to me and not even the gradient effect could save this jersey from being one of the most underwhelming tops I have seen released for the Arsenal.
Predominantly clad in light and dark blue, they formed a sash formation on the shirt with lime green trims. This season alone, they’ve launched a light pink away jersey for United (their best seller), a mint top for Bayern not too dissimilar to our third kit and also some stellar kits from the recent World Cup. Easy victories over Australian opponents were followed by a penalty shoot-out victory over Bayern Munich – putting to bed their recent misery against them – and a fatigued loss against rivals Chelsea. Arsenal manager between 1925 and 1934, his guidance took the Club to three league titles and an FA cup victory during that time. But pre-season preparations at the Emirates have been coming along nicely and, after their Community Shield victory over Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, they’ll host Leicester City on Friday night in high spirits. As much as I tried to assist on the pitch, I tried to be part of the London community as much as I could too.
As Arsenal get ready to move to Adidas, there was much excitement when Mesut Ozil was pictured wearing a retro Adidas Arsenal jersey. Arsenal have now confirmed the German has changed to no.1 leaving behind the no.19 shirt he inherited from Santi Cazorla following his move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer. The club had gone through a nine-year trophyless drought following the Invincibles, perhaps the greatest Premier League team ever. I blame Puma for cursing the club with this awful number. The number is currently free following Hector Bellerin’s decision to switch to No.2 prior to the season just gone. Ozil has started both games under interim boss Freddie Ljungberg following Unai Emery’s sacking. The following year the European Cup Winners’ Cup was won in Copenhagen. We won a second FA Cup in style in this jersey which seals its place as one of my favourites in recent years. Puma rode on the wave of euphoria as the launch of their first kit came just after Arsenal won their first title in 9 years with the FA Cup. Well, some Arsenal seemed to think that it was possible, for a brief spell at least. Well, Arsenal have now announced Lacazette’s shirt number – and it means one player is almost guaranteed to leave this summer.
The player is listed on the club’s official store as No.22, and fans can currently buy his shirt online. That said, preferences can vary from fan to fan and views on the quality of recent kits have been as divisive as the “Wenger Out” debates. The video ticked a lot of boxes and the home kit was pretty decent though it has to be said, Puma played it safe with the design. As with the red home jersey that was made available in retail last week, the retro design is inspired by Arsenal’s kits from the early 1990s under George Graham. The shirt’s crest reverts back to Arsenal’s primary design, having sported a unique 125th anniversary version for the 2011/12 season. Arsenal’s famous cannon has been featured on the club’s shirts for 50 years and, to celebrate that milestone, it has been added to reverse of the new home kit, below the collar.
Puma’s sophomore year brought us this home jersey which saw them attempting to add in a little sartorial flair into their designs. Adidas has certainly upped the ante in the last few years with designs that blend elements of street culture, lifestyle and sportswear. And if we’re going with adidas, expect more flamboyant colours and designs as they’re trying very hard to mix lifestyle into their football apparel too. It is easy to sweep quickly across half a century of English football and dismiss it as unspectacular. The goalkeeper spent the second half of last season on loan at the Emirates and played three Premier League games for Mikel Arteta’s side. And despite being linked with a number of up and coming stars such as Mykola Matviyenko, Raul Sanllehi and Edu have managed to seal a deal with Flamengo for Mari on loan until the end of the season. Hoddle managed a team that could have gone deep in 1998 had Argentina not been thrown in their way unfeasibly early in the tournament.
